Sometimes the best things in life are free. Not a lot of times; but this is one of those cases. There are two free (e)books available for Power BI:

Introducing Microsoft Power BI

This a great and substantial (189 pages) introduction to Power BI. It covers nearly all of the elements of Power BI and includes exercises and exercise files to get some hands on experience. Because this is ‘just’ an introduction, it does not go into the more advanced use cases and advanced uses of DAX, M and custom visuals. But a great place to get started!

The DIY Guide to Dazzling Data

The DIY Guide to Dazzling data is a small introduction (15 pages) into some of the possibilities of Power BI. It remains very high level and reads a bit like a ‘sales pitch’. In my opinion not the best place to get started.

Power BI Books Report

There are a lot of good books on Power BI in general and also on specific topics in Power BI (DAX, M, etc.). Below report shows how these books compare on price, number of reviews, rating, etc. Below this report is the complete list of books.

The report consists of:

  • Books Overview: Overview of the available books on Power BI including the number of reviews on and the average rating of those reviews. Also shows the number of books by each author.
  • Books Reviews over Time: a bubble chart with play-axis that shows the development of reviews and rating over time. Click a bubble to see the development of that book over time.
  • Books Details: A treemap showing the number of pages per book. Use this graph to filter the graphs on reviews and price development over time (‘ctrl+click’ to select multiple items).
